Back at you today with another paper flower tutorial and this one is all about the beloved rose! You’ll be able to make beautiful paper roses that you can use to decorate anything with.

I’ve used paper roses to decorate cakes, Valentine’s Day cards, and shadow boxes, really the possibilities of decorating with a small flower are endless. And the best part is that they won’t die like real flowers!

I’ve shown you how to make beautiful roses with a cutting machine, but I know not all of you have one, so these step-by-step instructions are without Cricut machines.

You just need some minimal craft supplies including cardstock paper or thick craft paper, some scissors, glue, and our free template!

And since I know we like to craft differently, I am going to show you two easy and different ways to make a paper rose.

The paper flower templates are available to download for free at the bottom of this post!

But you don’t have to use the printable template.

Feel free to make giant paper roses by using the template as a guide and draw your own petal sizes. Or you can use your printer settings to increase the template to make different sizes.

How to Make Paper Rose Out of Paper

Make an easy paper rose out of paper with a free rose template pdf and a few craft supplies!

Materials

• Colored card stock or thick craft paper
• Craft Glue

Tools

• Pencil
• Pair of Scissors

Instructions

1. Download the free paper rose template PDF file from below. Print out on regular copy paper (or colored cardstock if your printer can handle thicker paper) and cut out the rose template patterns. Trace the patterns on the colored craft paper and cut them out.
2. The first thing we are going to do is work with the 5 petal cutouts. Apply a thin line of glue along an open side.
3. Close the rose layer by adhering the glued open side with the adjacent open side.
4. Use a small round object like a pencil or pen to curl the round ends of the petal pattern.
5. Repeat for the other 5-petal cutout piece to create the two layers of outer petals.
6. Now we are going to assemble the 4 petal and the two 3-petal cutouts. Add glue along an open side (just like the previous ones!).
7. Join the two open sides where the glue is and squeeze for a few seconds for the glue to dry. Repeat for all layers.
8. Again use a small round object to curl the round ends of the rose petals.
9. The next step is to roll the 2 petal cutout and join the open ends. Then for the 1 petal cut outs, coil them and secure them with glue.
10. All the rose petal patterns should be ready to assemble.
11. Apply a little bit of glue to the center of one of the 5 petal layers and place the second 5 petal cutout on top of it with the large petals staggered.
12. Next glue on the 4 petal mid size pattern.
13. Glue the slightly bigger 3-petal patterns on next.
14. Now add the small 3-petal pattern on the center with the glue.
15. Now on to the rose center! Glue the 2 petal pattern next. Then join the 1-petal pieces together by inserting the smaller coil inside the bigger coil.
16. The last easy step to making a paper rose is to glue the 1 petal pair inside the 2-petal pattern. Allow the glue to dry! If you would like rose leaves, cut out a few leaves on green paper and glue on.

Notes

Thick craft paper or light cardstock works best for this craft.

Easy Spiral Paper Rose Tutorial

The second way to make a smaller size rose is to make a spiral cutout. These beautiful paper flowers can be added to a stick to make a long-stem rose.

If you are a teacher, these paper crafts are perfect for classroom use (think special craft for Mother’s Day!) along with our paper fan flowers.

For this step-by-step tutorial, you’ll need different colors of craft paper like pink and green, scissors, a popsicle stick, and a glue stick or hot glue gun.

1. Cut pink colored paper into a circle shape using scissors (switch things up and use coffee filters if you don’t have craft paper on hand!

2. Draw a spiral within the circle and cut it out using scissors.

3. Vertically cut one regular popsicle stick in half using scissors.

4. Roll the paper starting from the center of the spiral.

Put some hot glue at the bottom of the rolled up rose to hold it together.

5. Cut a piece for your flower’s leaves using green colored paper and scissors.

6. Attach the base of the rose, leaves, and popsicle stick together using a glue stick and the pape rose is done!
